Born and raised on a small farm south of McGregor, Minnesota, Paul’s love of wild places began early. He started taking nature photos in the early 1970s and purchased his first 35mm SLR camera while serving in the military at Fort Bliss, Texas. Photographing the North Shore became a passion when he and his wife, Karla, moved to Cascade River State Park in 1976.
The Sundberg family relocated to Gooseberry Falls State Park in 1983 where they presently reside. As manager of the park, Paul has the opportunity to share his knowledge of the North Shore with many park visitors.
Paul’s photos have been made into calendars and postcards. They have also appeared in several publicatrions such as Lake Superior Magazine and Boundary Waters Journal. Paul recently has had his photos put to music in several DVDs from Take it Home Productions. He also speaks to church and civic groups.
Many family memories have been created while traveling the Shore with their children, Rebecca and Adam. “The North Shore is such a special place.” Paul says. “There isn’t a better place to live and raise a family. Every season holds new wonders to experience and photograph.” |
